Can’t quite make out the names of the books, but see some nice fat ones. And do I see some Amar Chitra Katha comics on the left side, lower shelf? Like the Mickey mouse gone to sleep on the books too!

The one that looks like Amar Chitra Katha is in fact the ‘Magic Pot’ the fortnightly magazine. Its very colorful and fun magazine with lots of activities and little picture stories. But Amar Chitra Katha series is getting added to the collection slowly as he is growing up and started liking the Comics format.
Then there is a big bunch of picture and story books from Pratham (http://www.prathambooks.org/home.htm) and Children’s Book Trust India. All these books are so very colorful, simple and have story of Indian context.
But the biggest lot has to be – old books which I bought from a bargain shops. There are these small bargain books shops around Bangalore where they sell old books mostly imported from US. Most of these books are in pretty good condition. So once in a while we go to these shops ransack the books piles and bring home a good collection with us back to home. I sit and dust and wipe them and then it goes to the bookshelf. Shashank then decide which story he would like to listen. We have discovered some fantastic books with our little adventure in these books shop such as -
- Frog’s Lunch
- Little Critter Series books
- Eric Carle the Very Lonely Firefly
- Corduroy
- Clifford Series
- Bear Shadow
- Dizzy
- Oregon’s Journey (our favorite)
- Freight Train
- Visiting Grandpa (an Old Russian book)
- One Hundred Hungry Ants
- Lots of Cars and vehicles books
- Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel (another favorite, first published in 1939! Can you believe it – 70 years ago and story and pictures still a child’s favorite)
All of the above from bargain book shop!
Oh, I can go on writing like this.
