Janet, I would love to hear your life story sometime - from a northern cabin to Thailand...

I will look out On Mother's Lap for a friend who has just had her second baby... Here's that <a href="http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=cwpycDQZZzgC&dq=%22On+Mother's+Lap%22&pg=PP1&ots=Rp-WOUcl8u&sig=xb9cE-c8r5hH5uxgdmdajImXk40&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result" rel="nofollow">link to Google Books</a>...

From another and colder part of the world--On Mother's Lap by Ann Herbert Scott and illustrated by Glo Coalson--about Michael, his mother, and the new baby--an Inuit family in a cabin that looks so much like the one I grew up in! It's a lovely look at a new sister making her older brother feel crowded out, what he does to reclaim his territory, and how he discovers there's room for everybody on Mother's lap. You can see a limited preview with illustrations (which are wonderful!) on Google Books.
I love Hush--Minfong Ho has written a companion to it called Peek, where the mother is searching for her baby in a game of hide-and-seek, which is delightful too.
