Carol Antoinette Peacock, illustrated by Shawn Costello Brownell,
Mommy Far, Mommy Near: An Adoption Story
Albert Whitman & Co., 2000.

Mommy Far, Mommy Near is a resource for parents addressing the difficult matters young adopted children often grapple with: identity, origin and a sense of belonging. Author Carol Peacock tells a personal story through the experience of her own daughter, Elizabeth. In the end, Elizabeth concludes her strength comes from her supportive families from near and far. This adoption story is simplified and introductory. Knowing many adoptees, I have witnessed these familiar struggles they and their families have faced. Through positive exposure and role models in mainstream media, grass root organizations and community inclusiveness, adoptees will have wider strength when confronting adversity. Mommy Far, Mommy Near is a wonderful combination.
