 Smithsonian Education

  What is it?

Smithsonian Education is the central education website of the Smithsonian Institution

  PaperTigers says...

An incredibly rich resource for educators, parents and students, representative of Smithsonian's reputation and intellect.

  Tell me more…
  • Formerly known as "Field Trips and Learning Resources, the Smithsonian Education website is a collective effort by the staff of the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies.
  • The website serves as the gateway to all Smithsonian educational resources and its content is tailored to three distinct audiences: educators, families, and students, to help promote understanding of the museums' riches and emphasize inquiry-based learning.
  • Educators will find lesson plans about history & culture, language arts, science, art & design, people & places. "Idea Labs" allow students to explore all sorts of " fun, cool, scary, patriotic, and beautiful things" and families get tips about child-friendly exhibits, resources and on how to make the most of their museum visit.
  • A 'resource library' lets users search by topic and age group, and educators even have the option of finding resources related to state curriculum standards.
  • A special Heritage Teaching section provides thematically arranged teaching resources, selected for their relevance to classroom curriculum. Make sure to check out the teaching resources highlighted in the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Hispanic Heritage Month pages.
