  What is it?

EdChange is an organisation dedicated to providing ‘professional development, scholarship & activism for diversity, social justice & community growth’.

  PaperTigers says...

.... EdChange works with schools to push dialogue on issues of equality for all those at risk of discrimination, whether through race, gender, language, religion and more.  They seek dialogue beyond the comfortable and offer valuable support through direct involvement with schools, as well as a wealth of support materials via their Multicultural Pavilion website.

  Tell me more…
  • EdChange was founded by Paul C. Gorski, an assistant professor in the Graduate School of Education at Hamline University, Minnesota specializing in multicultural education. He and his team create the resources for use with schools and on the website.
  • EdChange’s website The Multicultural Pavilion provides resources and worksheets for teachers, as well as lists of reminders of how to be fully inclusive in the classroom, such as paradigm-shifts or, for example, 20 (Self-)Critical Things I Will Do to Be a Better Multicultural Educator.
  • The Awareness Activities Section is an invaluable resource for establishing and upholding multicultural respect and tolerance, both in the classroom and for teachers’ self-assessment, starting with The Depth and Breadth of "Multicultural", which challenges the foundations of understanding of the term ‘multicultural’ itself.
  • A quiz, which can be done on-line or printed out as a classroom resource, offers sobering food for thought – and discussion.
  • Voices is EdChange’s poetry e-journal, which publishes new poems ‘dealing with culture, education, teaching, learning, identity, or anything else that will give readers a sense of who you are.’
  • Voices was inspired by the epigram Outwitted by the poet Edwin Markham (1852-1940): ‘He drew a circle that shut me out -/ Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout;/ But Love and I had the wit to win:/ We drew a circle that took him in!’
  • EdChange has set up an on-line archive, SoJust.net, which contains the full texts of speeches, declarations and acts as well as letters, literature, poems and songs, which pertain to the issue of social justice.
