Founded in November 1973 as an independent assembly of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents (ALAN) is made up of teachers, authors, librarians, publishers, teacher-educators and their students, and others who are particularly interested in the area of young adult literature. |

- ALAN produces the renowned The ALAN Review, a peer-reviewed journal published three times a year, packed with articles on YA literature and its teaching, interviews with authors, reports on publishing trends, current research on YA literature, book reviews, etc.
- The ALAN award, given out annually, was established to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the field of adolescent literature, be they a publisher, author, librarian, scholar or editor.
- The "New Voices" section of the website features interviews with authors, available online only.
- A Speakers Bureau offers a list of authors and speakers who are available for appearances - school visits, library visits, readings, conferences, etc.
- The ALAN online Book Club, open to anyone, is a group of readers that meets the third Wednesday of the month to discuss a particular book. Click here for a list of upcoming titles.
- Members of ALAN may apply to the ALAN Foundation for funding (up to $1,500) for research in young adult literature.
