The Noma Concours for Picture Book Illustrations is a biennial award whose purpose is to discover up-and-coming illustrators, graphic designers and artists in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, Arab States, and Latin America; to provide a venue at which they can present their work; and to offer incentives for their creative endeavors.

…The Noma Concours ensures exposure to a diverse audience and generates great opportunities for publication through exhibition of prize-winning works at the International Library of Children's Literature in Ueno, Tokyo; the
Biennale of Illustrations Bratislava in Slovakia; and other locations around the world.

• The Concours is presented by the Asia/Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU) and managed under the Noma International Book Development Fund.
• Entries are requested from UNESCO headquarters, regional offices and national commissions as well as from publishing companies, arts organizations, universities, individual illustrators and members of the mass media; and judged by an international jury panel.
• There is a total of 34 prize-winners: 13 of them are selected as candidates for the Runner-up, Second Prize and Grand Prize categories, and the remaining 21 automatically become recipients of the Encouragement Prize. All of the prize-winners are presented with a medal, and cash prizes are awarded to the artists in the Runner-up category and above.
• Past winners include several Pacific Rim artists, including Filipino illustrator Arnaldo Mirasol, who was one the artists on the 2000 Runner-up list, and whose art can be seen in our online gallery.
