Back to Country: Australia | Type: Award
Environment Award for Children's Literature — Australia

  What is it?

A book award for children’s fiction and non-fiction, published in Australia ‘which inspire a sense of wonder and a sense of caring for the natural world’.

  PaperTigers says...

... This competition taps into kids' enthusiasm and vigour for discovery and provides a forum for some astonishingly accomplished writing. It is the perfect introduction to a lifetime of asking questions and independent research into finding out the answers.

  Tell me more…
  • The award is given by Australia’s The Wilderness Society http://www.wilderness.org.au/  (TWS), a not-for-profit organisation established in 1976 both to educate and to protect and restore Australia’s wilderness areas.
  • It was first awarded in 1994.
  • Two overall winners are selected from the different categories: Fiction and Non-fiction Picture Books, Non-fiction, and Secondary readers.
  • TWS presents trophies and certificates to the winners.
  • TWS seeks donors to fund and promote the prize.
  • Entries for the year close on 31 January and the winners are announced to coincide.
