  Back to Country: Australia | Type: Illustrators' Resource
  Books Illustrated — Australia

  What is it?

Books Illustrated was founded in 1988 in Melbourne by Ann James and Ann Haddon as a gallery for children's book illustrations. Later it grew to a children's book center that includes a specialist children's book shop, a gallery exhibiting original book illustrations and an education program for all age levels focusing on picture books and the process of illustration.

  PaperTigers says...

Books Illustrated is a great resource for children, teachers, adults interested in becoming writers and illustrators, as well as people just curious to find out more about the behind-the-scenes of illustrators' work…

  Tell me more…
  • Exhibitions of illustrations by picture books artists are held in the center throughout the year, and the display includes the preliminary drawings, dummy books and artists' reference material. Main exhibitions change approximately every 3 months;
  • The Gallery showcases contemporary Australian children's books illustrations, available for sale;
  • Education programs include sessions to inform and educate the public about the making of children's books illustrations;
  • The center also holds seminars for adults interested in writing and illustrating children's books, and manuscript and folio consultations
