Feedback about author Cynthia Chin-Lee's visit to Synergy School, in San Francisco:

"I really liked Cynthia's manner with the kids - she was playful with them but at the same time let them know that she had some important things to talk about. I especially liked how she told them about some of her family history, in the beginning. I can't go any further without mentioning how wonderful her books are! I just love the A-Z biographies about these women and men - some less well-known than others, but all well-worth learning and reading about. The way she introduced the characters for each letter was great - it really made it fun. The games she played with them were fun and engaging, too. I am really excited to use the books next year when we have our biography unit - it will be a great way to kick off the activities and to give the kids lots of ideas of people to write about." (Sandy Barra, 4th Grade teacher)

"Cynthia did a wonderful job of keeping these kids engaged with her and the material. I think that they were almost equally interested in the historical figures she presented as they were in the information she gave them about her process as a writer. Showing them the actual drafts, the edited versions, the books' mock-ups, etc, and telling them about the long time it took, made the writer's life very real. I do think it is important to let the kids know what it is like to be a professional writer.

The students were very responsive to the sort of game-playing "guess-who" format that she used in the presentation. This presentation makes for a great introduction to a section on biographies." (Karen Klein, Head of Synergy's Library Committee).
