The Asian Pacific American Award for Literature (APAAL) is a biennial prize for children's and young adults' books written by/about Asian Pacific Americans.

… A valuable addition to the steadily-growing list of U.S multicultural awards, the Asian Pacific American Award is a good reminder about the importance of providing our children (bi-racial or not) with multicultural stories so that they are not raised solely on Western tales that don't necessarily mirror the world they live in.

• Established in 1998, the award is cosponsored and presented by the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) and the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA).
• The prize was created to honor and recognize individual work created by an Asian Pacific American writer and/or illustrator and is based on literary and artistic merit. There is one winner and two honorable mentions per year, in each category.
• Winners are announced at the Midwinter ALA Conference, in January, and the award is presented at the National Conference on Asian Pacific American Librarians, in June.
• Previous winning titles include A Step from Heaven, and Born Confused.
