Skipping Stones Magazine — International

  What is it?

Skipping Stones is an international multicultural magazine and accompanying website providing a forum for young people all over the world to share their experiences and creativity and celebrate ‘cultural and environmental richness’.

  PaperTigers says...

… young people can read about and contribute to discussion on issues which concern them as citizens of the world.  It provides a spring-board for young people to get involved with issues at a global level. A subscription to this great resource is more then worth it!

  Tell me more…
  • The magazine first appeared in 1988 and publishes 5 issues a year.  The contents and some articles from the year 2000 onwards are available online.
  • It is aimed at young people aged 7-17.
  • The magazine encourages young people from all over the world to send in their writing and artwork and explore an issue’s particular theme.
  • There are regular features including multicultural games and puzzles, stories, poetry, letters and advice.
  • In line with its ecological concerns, the magazine is printed on recycled paper with soy ink.
  • A teachers’ resource pack on ‘ Peace-making, Cooperation, and Interactual/ Interfaith Dialogue’ is also available.
  • The magazine also gives, annually, the Skipping Stones Honor Awards to books in four categories: Multicultural and International Awareness Books; Bilingual Spanish/ English Books; Nature and Ecology Books; and Teaching resources.  Winners for 2006 include books by Jeanette Winter, Demi and José Ramirez.
  • Individual or gift subscriptions cost $25 for a year’s supply; institutions, $35, with discounts for multiple copies; airmail, $10 extra.  Back issues are also available. To subscribe, visit their website.
