LeUyen Pham (pronounced LeWin, for those of you who were wondering) was born in Vietnam, in 1973, and settled in the United States in 1975, when her family fled Saigon.
Growing up in Southern California, LeUyen began drawing at an early age. She graduated in 1997 with a degree in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and began work as a layout artist for Dreamworks Feature Animation.
In 1999, LeUyen left Dreamworks to pursue children's book illustration full time. She has since published over a dozen children's books for various publishers and won several awards. Hyperion Books for Children will be publishing this year her first self-authored picture book entitled Big Sister, Little Sister. The story chronicles her own relationship with her older sister LeChi, and was originally designed as a birthday present for her.
One of Uyen's great pleasures is traveling. She has visited Southeast Asia, Australia, Africa, Russia, and Europe, to name a few. She has lived in Paris and volunteered in Russia, teaching English and computer skills to children. Her main goal is to touch each continent (Antarctica included) in the next few years. She sketches everywhere she goes.
LeUyen now lives and teaches in San Francisco, California, with her French monkey Alex, who is also an artist.
