Author/illustrator Amelia Lau Carling likes to explore themes from Latin America and China, and their legacies in the United States.  She wrote and illustrated Mama and Papa Have a Store/ La tienda de mamá y papá and Sawdust Carpets/Alfombras de aserrín, both based on her experiences of growing up in Guatemala. She’s also the illustrator of Abuelos by Pat Mora, a story set in New Mexico, and of Otras veces soy jaguar and Pueblo, two books of poems by the contemporary Mayan poet Humberto Ak’abal.

In addition to writing and illustrating, Amelia has worked in New York City as art director and design manager at several publishing houses. She lives in Westchester County, New York.

She is available for design and illustration assignments and school visits, and may be contacted at this email.
